Fire On The Farm

Well...our beloved gym, game room, storeroom, and bedroom for the oldest grandsons went up in flames on Saturday - right at the start of the Duck's/Beaver's football game.

Dan and I were babysitting our daughters kids and we kept hearing sirens and were sitting there wondering what might be happening to one of our neighbors. Little did we know!!! My husband went outside and heard a bunch of popping sounds (5000 rounds of ammo popping in the heat) and saw the flames. He thought it was the new barn at first, but ran up to our son's house and found the gym building in flames with the Banks fire department trying to put it out. It's a total loss, as you can see. Poor Daniel and Alan, our grandsons only had time to bust their window out, grab their school backpacks and lizards. It was just surreal watching this huge building fully engulfed in flames, and the firefighters hacking away at it to put it out. Thankfully none of the children were inside when it happened. Our son Dan was coming home with his oldest boys from a church Young Men overnighter and saw the smoke coming out of the garage door area. He opened the door to the building and billows of smoke engulfed him. He knew it was bad, then. So 911 was called.

Our daughter-in-law Jana was out "Scouting For Food" with her cub scout and came home to the spectacle. Their 13yr old daughter was watching the little kids while Jana was gone, and were oblivious to the smouldering building not many yards away until their dad got home. Thankfully no one was playing in the gym, or upstairs in the game room!

All of our families hunting guns and ammo, paintball equipment and Christmas presents for the whole family that Jana had just bought on "black Friday" were in the gun room (where it started) and of course every bit of clothing and personal effects of Daniel and Alan. Poor guys had to borrow clothes to go to church yesterday. We're just grateful for insurance!!!

Any ideas of how it started??? What an awful thing to see and experience. CRAZY!

What a scary experience. Mitchell told me that Dan left early from the Scouting Campout which sounds like was a great thing since he was the one to see the fire. Since Lindsay is finally able to babysit her sisters now I will have a discussion with them about fires just to be safe. So scary, but everyone looked well on Sunday so that is good.

The fire marshal came out yesterday with the insurance guy and they said that it was a faulty wire in a space heater. Jana had some "feeder mice" in the gun room she was keeping warm...ugh.
